Seventy American seamen and marines from the USS Dale (Commander Thomas O. Selfridge, USN) defeated a Mexican force of four hundred in the streets of Guaymas. The marines were commanded by Lt. Robert Tansill, USMC; the seamen by Passed Midshipman James Morris Duncan, USN. 17 November 1847.
