VALLEY TOWARDS SALTILLO, FROM NEAR BASE OF PALACE HILL MONTEREY - September 23,
1846
Charles Parsons after
Daniel Powers Whiting. Toned lithograph. G. & W. Endicott, NY, 1847.
This scene depicts the view
from the base of Independence Hill after its capture the previous day. Federation hill appears in the left foreground, behind which are the
Sierra Madre Mountains. To the right is Miter Mountain, around which the opening action between the Mexican lancers and the Texas Rangers occurred on September 21.
In the valley below a wagon train moves along the Saltillo Road, parallel to which is the Santa Catarina River against the front of Federation Hill.
