DEATH OF MAJOR RINGGOLD AT PALO ALTO

Major Samuel Ringgold spills from his saddle, fatally wounded in both thighs by Mexican cannon fire.  Ringgold, whose superbly drilled flying artillery proved itself at Palo Alto, was one of the five Americans who died in the engagement.
